Very good. I've had enough of certain other chip shops in the Chapel Allerton area so decided to find this place as I heard it's good.
I took a different bus home so it dropped me off outside. I walked straight in, no queue, and ordered haddock and chips which I thought was a very reasonable £4.15, which is cheaper than the one I used to go to. I had a 15 minute walk home so hoped it was worth it. The portions are big, the chips were very good and the fish was equally as good. Crisp batter and none of that stodgy batter malarky I have suffered elsewhere.
The customer service could have been a bit better as the woman was a bit Les Miserables. -

I was on a trip out with a work colleague and it was getting dangerously close to lunchtime. Having been beavering away since the morning sans any snacks, or even a cuppa, it wasn't difficult to persuade me to stop off at Drake's for some lunchy munchies.
He went for the fish, which looked and smelt delicious, and I went for chips and a battered sausage. In fairness this is more appropriate for an evening meal really than a small lunch but we were hungry and it was a one off. The staff in there were excellent, serving us quickly and cheerfully. I had a pt of curry sauce with mine and the whole thing was so wrong it was right. Delicious batter, gorgeous chips and brilliant curry sauce! I would recommend you stop by sometime and sample! Perhaps not advisable to make it a regular thing though, it's not the healthiest way to live... -

I wouldn't even know Drake's existed if it wasn't for the fact that Nash's doesn't open on a Sunday (a huge great oversight, if you ask me). After not too much driving out of Chapel Allerton in search of the solution to my fish and chip problem, Drake's revealed itself.
The first thing that struck me was the fact it's nice to visit a traditional chippie. No bells and whistles. No kebabs on offer. Just fish, chips and a reasonable assortment of other deep-fried foods promising a spot of clogging for your arteries. Second thing that struck me - friendly staff who volunteer scraps without any need for a nudge. Third: fish and chips for £3.60. Bargain!
Fourth and final thing to strike me, this time not until I got home: suitably tasty. Fresh, not too greasy, great light batter. If there's anything else you want from a chippy, please let me know! -

We were told by some friends to try the fish and chip shop on the Potternewton roundabout, and at first we thought it meant the one monaduff refers to in her review, with its bright signs and pizza and kebabs and all that, and then we found Drakes round the corner and breathed a huge sigh of relief.
We had two sausage, chips and peas teas at a total cost of £4.70. I'm not being funny but a trip to the chippy hasn't cost me under a fiver in about ten years so it was pretty mega.
There weren't any battered sausages but they did us some especially when we asked, and the lady was really friendly and it felt like the kind of place where if you go a few times they'll recognise you and get your sausages battered as soon as you walk in : )
The chips were done to perfection, and the peas were hotter than the sun. Loved it. -

My wife and her family swear by this fish and chips. They say it's second only to a place in headingly. We dine here once a month or so and it never dissapoints. Prices are rather resonable and you get a massive portion of chips with almost every order. I get the large sausage and the wife get a fish butty a portion of chips with scraps extra salt extra vinagar usually doesn't cost anymore than 6 pounds so we end up very happy. Go ahead give them a try I can say your more than likely won't be dissapointed. Wash em down with a great pint of lager sit down with some crap itv show and call it a night.
